The Uguu-Files
by moyism on October 23rd, 2006

Just a word of warning, this post is utterly pointless but I thought would be worth a quick laugh for those interested.
After watching the first few episodes of Kyoto Animation’s Kanon, I came to the realization that Yuuichi Aizawa is in fact Kyon from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Now this isn’t a totally baseless assumption based on the fact Tomokazu Sugita voices both characters. Nor is it because both characters look similar thanks to being animated by the same animation company. Hear me out as I list the top eight reasons why Kyon is Yuuichi (or vice-versa):
1. Sarcasm: After a year or so of inner monlogue when dealing with Haruhi, Kyon decided it’ll be better to share his words of wisdom with the rest of the world. The man has to release his stress somehow right?
2. Name: We never knew Kyon’s real name, so it’s always possible it’s Yuuichi Aizawa. And if Yuuichi’s “amazing” naming ability of Makoto is any indication, his family seem to have a knack for thinking up unique names.
3. Transfer Student: Haruhi either re-set the world, became normal, or Kyon decided to screw it all and moved on with his life. And what better way than by living with relatives you haven’t seen in years? Plus Yuuichi’s cover story of his parents “busy with work” is pure genius; a lot better than saying “I got sick and tired of babysitting god.”
4. Sleep: Kyon’s old bad sleeping habits are similar to Nayuki’s. After so many years of being waken by his younger sister, however, Kyon Yuuichi can finally wake up normally. Nayuki on the other hand…
5. Memory: The true reason for Yuuichi’s memory lost is due to his crazy life during the Haruhi Year(s). You can’t possible expect anyone to have a clear-cut memory after hanging around Haruhi for so long you know.
6. Girls: Yuuichi seems to draw the same type of strange weird girls just like Kyon does. Coincidence? I think not as most guys wouldn’t go out of their way to meet such girls. Then again, all the strange girls Yuuichi/Kyon meet are rather good looking so he may have something there.
7. Money: Lost of money thanks to girls all involving food. And here Yuuichi thought he’ll have some money for himself after his time of being Haruhi’s personal bank. Luckily Ayu’s taiyakis are a lot cheaper than constantly treating four plus people on a daily basis.
8. Covering the Bases: Yuuichi exploring the school was only an excuse to make sure Haruhi didn’t happen to transfer in and start another SOS-Dan club. It would have been hell trying to explain all his older/newer friends to Haruhi without her about to kill him!
Okay, I’ll admit some of the reasons seem kind of weak. Plus I’m also not factoring in the rest of either series from their original roots (game and novel). You have to admit, however, based on the animes alone it is very possible my theory holds some truths.
Only time will tell if Yuuichi shows more of his old “Kyon” personality can my theory be absolutely true. If only Yuuichi would start to hum some songs from Haruhi or talk about aliens, time travelers, and ESPers would I have the concrete evidence needed!
