The Uguu-Files

Just a word of warning, this post is utterly pointless but I thought would be worth a quick laugh for those interested.

After watching the first few episodes of Kyoto Animation’s Kanon, I came to the realization that Yuuichi Aizawa is in fact Kyon from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Now this isn’t a totally baseless assumption based on the fact Tomokazu Sugita voices both characters. Nor is it because both characters look similar thanks to being animated by the same animation company. Hear me out as I list the top eight reasons why Kyon is Yuuichi (or vice-versa):

1. Sarcasm: After a year or so of inner monlogue when dealing with Haruhi, Kyon decided it’ll be better to share his words of wisdom with the rest of the world. The man has to release his stress somehow right?

2. Name: We never knew Kyon’s real name, so it’s always possible it’s Yuuichi Aizawa. And if Yuuichi’s “amazing” naming ability of Makoto is any indication, his family seem to have a knack for thinking up unique names.

3. Transfer Student: Haruhi either re-set the world, became normal, or Kyon decided to screw it all and moved on with his life. And what better way than by living with relatives you haven’t seen in years? Plus Yuuichi’s cover story of his parents “busy with work” is pure genius; a lot better than saying “I got sick and tired of babysitting god.”

4. Sleep: Kyon’s old bad sleeping habits are similar to Nayuki’s. After so many years of being waken by his younger sister, however, Kyon Yuuichi can finally wake up normally. Nayuki on the other hand…

5. Memory: The true reason for Yuuichi’s memory lost is due to his crazy life during the Haruhi Year(s). You can’t possible expect anyone to have a clear-cut memory after hanging around Haruhi for so long you know.

6. Girls: Yuuichi seems to draw the same type of strange weird girls just like Kyon does. Coincidence? I think not as most guys wouldn’t go out of their way to meet such girls. Then again, all the strange girls Yuuichi/Kyon meet are rather good looking so he may have something there.

7. Money: Lost of money thanks to girls all involving food. And here Yuuichi thought he’ll have some money for himself after his time of being Haruhi’s personal bank. Luckily Ayu’s taiyakis are a lot cheaper than constantly treating four plus people on a daily basis.

8. Covering the Bases: Yuuichi exploring the school was only an excuse to make sure Haruhi didn’t happen to transfer in and start another SOS-Dan club. It would have been hell trying to explain all his older/newer friends to Haruhi without her about to kill him!

Okay, I’ll admit some of the reasons seem kind of weak. Plus I’m also not factoring in the rest of either series from their original roots (game and novel). You have to admit, however, based on the animes alone it is very possible my theory holds some truths.

Only time will tell if Yuuichi shows more of his old “Kyon” personality can my theory be absolutely true. If only Yuuichi would start to hum some songs from Haruhi or talk about aliens, time travelers, and ESPers would I have the concrete evidence needed!

There are problems with you’re fine theory though, you haven’t made clear how Kyon/Yuuchi could simply just walk away from Mikuru, more over Mikuru isn’t exactly forgettable…

Let us not forget that in a fight between uguu, which is weaker than gao, and rotund taiyaki thief vs a very comprehnsive wardrobe and fine lady guaranteed to grow into a knockout I find it hard to believe that Kyon/Yuuichi would not have elected to elope with the latter.

Number 7 could be easily solved by releasing Haruhi’s movie with them special knoeckout pictures Kyon/Yuuihi has in his possession.

Nevertheless a fine theory from Lord Moyism.

I also see that Yuuchi now has the herpes…

A beautiful post, and you go on the tracker.

I laughed mainly because it’s so “possible” while being indescribably impossible.

It is possible that Kyon has the ability to travel to parallel universe, without him knowing it. It could explain his place in SOS-dan.

I had some similar thoughts. I find Kanon much more enjoyable if I pretend/realize it is ACTUALLY crossover fanfic.

Hell, I’ve always maintained that Aizawa is a reincarnation of Kyon. That’s why, for the rest of Kanon’s run, I will refer him as Kyon’ichi. I prefer a reincarnation explanation rather than a “universe-hopping”. This ain’t Tsubasa y’know… though if Mokona suddenly makes a cameo, I might rethink that ;).

But in any damn ways, Kyon/Sugita Tomokazu is now my top male seiyuu. That voice… that sarcasam… he’s definitely awesome. Any harem projects that he embarks from now, shall be put as win by default.

Crusader, I was hoping people would not take into account the Mikuru Factor. Who knows, maybe he wanted his own girl he could costume rape that wasn’t already “ruined goods.” Or god forbid, he just lost interest in Mikuru after he realized all the aHaruhi x Mikuru action that happens.

    BTW Crusader, that ain’t herpes… just a very er.. affectionate aunt ^^;;

lolikitsune, woohoo to being added to the Kanon tracker ;)

wontaek, Kyon decided he wanted to have a NORMAL high school experience and time slipped into the Kanon world I guess?

Seth, haha good idea. I have, however, been enjoying Kanon as is but then again it doesn’t take much to keep me happy.

Kurogane, I’m waiting for Haruhi or any of the other SOS-Dan members to randomly pop up in the background. Who knows, maybe Ayu and Haruhi are distant relatives?

hmmm… they should really have a bunny girl cameo in the shopping district sometime soon… most likely as ayu and kyon’ichi are running away with taiyaki again… lol…

it would be funny to play “spot the haruhi” for the rest of the series, but i fear that we all may become too embroiled in that and lose sight of the greatest thing of all… 24 EPISODES OF KANON GOODNESS!!!

    so… umm.. ya… go uguu~!

Simply, Kyon has been decided by Kanon director to act as Yuuichi.
